Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty

A Tummy Tuck or an Abdominoplasty is a procedure that transforms a stretched out and bulging tummy to a firm and flat one.  Pregnancy causes the stomach to stretch from the inside, pushing out on the skin and muscle wall.  Significant weight gain and loss from pregnancies can result in loose and stretched skin that is not possible to reverse with diet and exercise.  Patients who had gastric bypass and banding surgeries also experience the same.  In both instances, even after much diet and exercise, patients are unable to have a firm and flat stomach.
Tummy tuck is a procedure frequently performed by Dr. Gregory Diehl, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk County, New York, that is extremely gratifying where it not only restores the patient's body but also his/her self- confidence.  At your complimentary consultation Dr. Diehl will discuss all aspects of Tummy Tuck Surgery with you.  Dr. Diehl will also determine whether you are a good candidate for the Tummy Tuck Surgery.

How is a Tummy tuck performed?

The first step is to decide whether a Mini-Tummy Tuck or a Full Tummy Tuck is indicated.  This depends how loose the skin is, and how much to remove.  Dr. Diehl will discuss the options with you during your consultation.
A Mini-Tummy Tuck is performed when only the lower half of your abdomen is loose, and the belly button area looks youthful.  The Mini-Tummy Tuck is done by placing the incision very low, so that the scar is always under your panties or bathing suit, much like a cesarean scar.  The muscle is tightened from the belly button down to the pubis.  The incision is shorter than a full Tummy Tuck, the upper abdomen is left alone, and the belly button is not changed.  From the belly button down your tummy will be flat and the loose skin will be removed.
A Full Tummy Tuck is performed when both the upper and lower abdomen have been stretched, including the belly button.  More skin tightening is planned, and the abdominal wall is tightened from the very top of the abdomen down, past the belly button, down to the pubis.  Full-length tightening of the abdominal muscles from a Full Tummy Tuck results in the firm and flat tummy that is desired.  The skin is made maximally tight, giving you a flat stomach, and the belly button is reshaped to a youthful almond shape.  Most of the stretch marks will be removed as well.

What is the recovery for Tummy Tucks?

Mini-Tummy Tuck recovery is shorter and simpler than with a Full Tummy Tuck.  With Mini-Tummy Tuck, you will need about 10 days before returning to your normal routine.
Full Tummy Tuck recovery is a bit longer.  The initial discomfort is handled with a “pain pump”, which is a continuous drip of anesthetic through a tiny tube.  Dr. Diehl will see you the day after your surgery to remove this, and to change your bandages for you.  A home-visiting nurse service is available should you choose; for the first few days the nurse will check on you and help with bandages and such.  The first 3 days feel like a cesarean section operation, and are handled with pain medications, such as Vicodin.  There are small drains which remain for about a week.   At about a week to 10 days you will feel well and want to start getting back to your usual routine.  However, a Full Tummy Tuck needs to heal a little while longer, and Dr. Diehl encourages his patients to take it easy for an additional week.
Tummy Tuck patients, whether mini or full, are advised not to rush back to work; this is your time, that you deserve, and you should plan a leisurely recovery.  In summary, a tummy tuck patient needs two weeks off work, sometimes three, depending on the type of work.  Gym and sports activities may be resumed at about 4 weeks.

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation or Breast Enlargement is a very popular procedure for women, and is among the most commonly performed breast enhancement cosmetic surgery procedures by Dr. Gregory Diehl. Breast Augmentation can increase fullness and projection of your breasts and improve the balance of your figure, which will enhance your self-image and self confidence, especially here on Long Island where beach activities are quite popular. Breast size is very important to many women. If you are unhappy with your breast size, you might consider Breast Augmentation / Breast Enlargement surgery. Breast Augmentation is a very safe procedure with a fairly simple recovery. You should choose a surgeon who is experienced and has been Board Certified in Plastic Surgery.

You may be a good candidate for Breast Augmentation/Enlargement surgery if:

* You feel that your breast size is too small or disproportionate to your body
* You have uneven breasts and would like to achieve symmetry
* You have lost a large amount of weight and your breasts have shrunken
* Your breast size and shape changed after pregnancy

What is a "Scarless" Breast Augmentation?

Dr. Gregory Diehl performs "Scarless" Breast Augmentation, where there is no scar on the breasts, by using an endoscope through your underarm. This technique is quite desirable as there is no visible sign of a breast augmentation surgery on the patient.

Can my breasts be fuller and "up" where they used to be from just a breast augmentation?

Unfortunately no, however a Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift your breasts can be fuller and lifted up and as a result, they will look more youthful.

What types of breast implants are available and where are they placed?

There are two options when choosing a breast implant: saline or silicone. They both have differences in properties, and patients can choose the one that is suitable for them. Dr. Diehl places breast implants under the muscles instead of just under the skin, as this results in most ideal shape and natural looking breasts.

What kind of recovery can I expect after a Breast Augmentation?

Dr. Diehl's patients experience mild to moderate discomfort after breast augmentation surgery, and with prescription pain medication, they do tolerate the discomfort very well. Breast Augmentation is a safe procedure with a fairly simple recovery. Dr. Diehl's patients go home in approximately 1 hour after their surgery. His patients can go back to their routine in less than a week. Mild exercise can resume in 10 days. Most patients are back to work in about a week.

Facelift Surgery

Facelift Surgery is a cosmetic surgical procedure to rejuvenate an aging face. There are various degrees and stages of facial aging that can be caused by the natural aging process, heredity, and lifestyle choices.
A Facelift surgery tightens and lifts the redundant skin in the face and neck.  In most instances Eyelid and Brow Lifts are done as well as the same time.  Dr. Diehl also offers "Non-surgical" Facelifts; facial fillers, such as Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Restylane®, can plump up thinning lips and fill in deep lines around the mouth and nose, and BOTOX® can smooth wrinkles around the eyes and the forehead.  Other rejuvenation of the skin by Laser resurfacing, chemical peels or skin treatments can be effective as well in certain cases.
At your complimentary consultation, Dr. Gregory Diehl, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon inPort Jefferson Station, Long Island, New York, will discuss all aspects of the Facelift Surgery with you.  Dr. Diehl will also determine whether you are a good candidate for the Facelift Surgery.

How is a Facelift Surgery Performed?

Facelift or a Rhytidectomy is a procedure where the loose skin around the face and neck is smoothed by removing the excess skin and the fat.  During a Facelift incisions are made in the hair line, temple region extending down in front of the ear and then around the back of the ear into the hairline.  The skin of the face and neck is then pulled upward producing a tightening and smoothing result.  The muscle layers underneath the skin are tightened as well during a Facelift procedure.

How long does the result from a Facelift last?

The results vary a bit from person-to-person as the face will continue to age as a natural process.  However, most people can expect their results to last between five and ten years.

What is the recovery like after Facelift surgery?

Most people are able to return to work between 10 and 14 days after their surgery.  Strenuous activities should be avoided for at least two weeks.

Does a Facelift leave scars?

Dr. Gregory Diehl will place your scars in a way that is inconspicuous.  They lie in the natural creases in front of and behind the ear.  At your consultation visit Dr. Diehl will demonstrate the exact location of where your scar will be.
